Postdoc position in a Swiss National Science Foundation project: The dynamic nature of interethnic attitudes in Bulgaria: A social psychological perspective

Description of project Drawing on a social psychological framework, the project examines views of the Bulgarian majority and of the two largest minorities, the Turks and the Roma, on each other (i.e., views on the majority and minorities respectively) as well as their views on different immigrant groups. The research is based on a survey to be carried out during the project, existing national survey data on diversity and immigration attitudes (e.g., ESS, ISSP), and interviews.

Profile · PhD in social psychology (or closely related discipline) · Demonstrated knowledge of research on interethnic relations, attitudes towards cultural diversity and/or prejudice · Experience in planning and conducting survey research · Strong skills in data analysis · Project management skills · Excellent English (spoken and written). The ability to speak French is an advantage (the work environment is French-speaking), but not a requirement for this position · Motivated to participate in field trips to Bulgaria.
Job description The work will consist of literature reviews, study setup, preparation of datasets and survey questionnaires, analyses on secondary data and the survey study, coordination of the day-to-day work with the Bulgarian research team (2 professors, 2 post-docs, and 2 PhD students), writing of articles and presentation of research results at conferences. The postdoc will be integrated in the social psychology unit at University of Lausanne.
Salary and duration The 75% position is available for 2 years, with an anticipated starting date of 1st March 2013/1st April 2013 (or shortly thereafter). The salary is determined by the regulations of the Swiss National Science Foundation and the University of Lausanne.
